Dressing for Success

Homegrown and Healthy

If you haven’t been following @ShuttersCA or caught this LA Times piece then you may have missed the news that Italian celebrity Chef Matteo Temperini from the famed Le Sirenuse in Positano has arrived at Shutters on the Beach for a week long promotion.

This is Matteo’s first trip to the Golden State and Managing Chef Sven Mede is giving him a whirlwind culinary orientation of Southern California.  Together they have been sourcing the freshest local ingredients for Le Sirenuse Week at One Pico February 19 to the 26th.

Although Matteo, his Sous Chef Francesco Mauri and the Shutters team will take advantage of California’s abundant resources, he also brought some of his favorite ingredients with him to help duplicate his famous Amalfi Coast signature dishes.   The Shutters kitchen is now brimming with Italian imports including Classic Spaghetti by Gerardo di Nola from Gragnano, olive oil from Castell’In Villa in Tuscany, and Piennolo Tomatoes, a prized vine variety from Mt. Vesuvius in Campania.  Check out the entire menu here.

In addition to preparing for his collaboration with Chef Sven and his team, Matteo found some time to teach an Italian cooking class with our friend Dana Slatkin, the Beverly Hills Farmgirl (and the author of the Shutters Summertime Anytime Cookbook). Their class sold out in three hours and according to Dana and every guest, “the dishes, particularly the Insalata del Sud, was almost as good as a trip to the Amalfi Coast!”

As an added bonus, Le Sirenuse owners Antonio and Carla Sersale have created a pop up shop with their favorite retail items from Emporio Sirenuse inside The Cottage at Shutters on the Beach.
