How to Spend a Long Weekend in Santa Monica

Catch Swordfish 3

Summer is here, and Catch has the recipe for a perfect season at Casa del Mar.

It starts with sweeping views of Santa Monica Beach and ends with an equally enticing, seafood-driven menu that changes seasonally. (Not to mention, a serious raw bar.)

Standouts like black squid ink seafood linguini and swordfish with stew cherry tomatoes, olives, capers, cipollini onions, lemon headline Chef Gemma Gray’s newest menu, which aims to incorporate more options for protein while remaining light for summer.

Take your seat in the sunlit dining room, and choose between appetizers like English pea soup (which you can also enjoy on the special DineLA menu in July) and crab cake with piquillo pepper remoulade. Then there is the raw bar, piled high with oysters, littleneck clams, and Atlantic lobster and showcasing Chef Gemma’s SoCal-inspired sushi from Japanese snapper and kampachi sashimi to the sweet Lobster Mango Roll.

For the main course, Casa’s Director of Outlets, Jiaqi Tang, recommends the seared Chilean bass. “It’s Chef Gemma’s home recipe,” she says, while describing the dish with homemade potato gnocchi, manila clams, and green sauce with smoked white asparagus.

We hear that it pairs well with an after-dinner walk on the beach…
