Every so often, a food connoisseur comes along that really excites us.
And last month, that particular connoisseur was Popeye, a formerly stray dog from Los Angeles that has become a beloved presence in the culinary world.
Based in the city, the adorable pup (breed unknown) is an expert on Southern California fare and has traveled across the country to try everything from five-star cuisine to revered local ice cream. We were lucky enough to host him at Shutters on the Beach when he stopped in to try some of our favorite dishes, and he thoroughly enjoyed himself!
At Coast, Popeye created his own entrée at Pasta on the Patio, an Italian-themed evening hosted by Chef Vittorio Lucariello in which guests can choose from handmade pastas like tagliatelle, spaghetti, garganelli, and ravioli and savory toppings like shrimp, zucchini, hazelnut, and Calabrian chilies. (The event takes places Tuesdays from 5 to 9 pm.)
Popeye opted for the porcini ravioli with mushrooms, tomato, and pesto sauce.
Then it was on to Terrazza at Casa del Mar for a private lunch just steps from the Pacific. This time, the pup dined on a margherita pizza with tomato, basil, and mozzarella – an outstanding choice, if we may say so ourselves.
Popeye also spent some quality down time at the Shutters pool. Soaking in some rays and showing off his shades. He knows how to live the good life.
You can follow all of Popeye’s culinary adventures on Instagram. (And really, he makes all food look fantastic.)
