Beautiful beaches, year-round sunshine, and an iconic lifestyle make California one of the world’s most coveted destinations. But the list doesn’t stop there: with its internationally renowned wine and freshly sourced produce, the California fine dining scene can make any epicurean’s mouth water faster than you could say the words “Cabernet Sauvignon.”
At Shutters on the Beach, we’re celebrating this wealth of local delicacy by offering a seasonal pairing menu curated by One Pico Executive Chef Isaac Gamboa. Available for $75 per person during dinner only, this “Love the Grape” menu combines the finest in California cuisine with one featured wine producer per month. It’s a three-course feast, allowing guests to try three unique wines from each producer’s portfolio.
With no further ado—your taste buds have waited long enough—here’s what you will be indulging in this month…
February Menu
February’s menu features wines from Robert Biale Vineyards in Napa Valley. Located in the expansive Rockpile Ranch, this excellent winery benefits from a cool and sunny microclimate to produce some of the region’s finest Zinfandel.
First up is the 2011 Basic Black. Aromatic and complex, this popular Zin shows flavors of red and black currants, black tea, charcoal, and subtle hints of star jasmine, leather, and dried cherry. Combined with a seared Maine Diver Scallop with black truffle puree and butternut squash, your dinner is off to a distinctly flavorful start.
Roasted saddle of lamb is up next as the main entrée, a stimulating pairing for the fruity-yet-spicy taste of the 2012 Black Chicken Zin. The subtle flavor of braised cabbage and Yukon Gold Potato accentuates the powerful notes of blackberry, bright raspberries, clove, five spice, black tea, toasted brioche, caramel, and vanilla.
Last but not least is a Reblochon Cheese & Quince Marmalade. Light and sweet, this refreshing final course finds a unique complement in the densely–flavored, pure Zinfandel flavor of the 2012 Rockpile Rocky Ridge. It’s a powerful wine that will leave you with an elegant finish of plum, blackberry, cherry, and hints of stony mineral, aromatic spice, and dried flower notes.
