Staying active while on vacation is no match for guests of Shutters on the Beach and Hotel Casa del Mar. As if workout classes, yoga, biking, and surfing weren’t enough, we also happen to be surrounded by pedestrian friendly Santa Monica—ranked the 4th most walkable city in California and the 12th most walkable city in the U.S. by Walk Score.
Be it a stroll on the beach or a shopping excursion to the promenade, below are some of our favorite city destinations to travel by foot. And should your body need some restoration after the day’s trek, you’ll be happy to know that ONE Spa or Sea Wellness Spa are only a few more steps away. Perfect for relaxing, refreshing, and revitalizing, our popular reflexology treatments will have you ready for another walking adventure in no time.
Santa Monica Beach
No Santa Monica outing is complete without a walk along our beautiful beach. Whether strolling the boardwalk, visiting restaurants and shops, or exploring Santa Monica Pier, it’s no wonder this stretch of sand is etched in California lore. And let’s not forget about the most inspiring walks of all: barefoot along the Pacific shoreline.
Palisades Park
A twenty-minute walk north from Shutters, Palisades is Santa Monica’s most notable park and offers panoramic views over the beach, Catalina Island, Malibu, and more. It’s the perfect getaway—if just for a few hours—and our chefs will be happy to make you a picnic for the excursion. As you’ll soon find out, shimmering ocean makes for a picturesque backdrop to lush grass, trees, and flowers.
Third Street Promenade
Few beach towns offer the shopping scale of Santa Monica and Third Street Promenade lies at the center of it all. You’ll find virtually every major store in the book here, plus a host of charming boutiques in surrounding streets of Santa Monica. But shopping is not the only pastime of interest: this is also the place to go for notable restaurants, weekly Farmer’s markets, a movie theater, street performers, and more. And did we mention it’s pedestrians only?
Venice Beach
World-renowned for its eclectic beach culture, Venice Beach is more than worthy of the 40-minute walk from Shutters and Casa. Between the street performers, shops, and free spirits, you’ll be guaranteed a full array of captivating action at all hours of the day. And if you’re in the mood for some trendy shopping or art browsing, the legendary Abbot Kinney is just a few minutes away.
