Restaurant Week at Casa del Mar

5-Nut Brownies From Chef Alberico

Summer 2015 is shaping up to be a memorable one on the shores of Santa Monica.

In addition to the annual Twilight Concert Series starting July 11th, the city by the sea is also gearing up to host one of its most anticipated events ever: the 2015 Special Olympics World Games. Back in the U.S. for the first time in 16 years, it’s the world’s biggest stage for athletes with intellectual disabilities and promises to deliver a rousing spectacle of perseverance, achievement, and sportsmanship.

Descending on Southern California for the 2015 LA Games are more than 7,000 Special Olympians from a total of 177 nations. Catch the action between July 25th and August 2nd and you’ll be treated to a wide variety of Olympic events—including aquatics, gymnastics, track and field, basketball, soccer, and many other summer sports. We’re not much for spoilers, but we will say this: these talented athletes will put on one of the most inspiring, emotional events you’ll ever witness.

As an official host town in the summer’s proceedings, Santa Monica has the honor of staging a unique pre-game orientation. Between July 21st and 24th, one hundred of the summer’s Special Olympians will be welcomed to California with a guided tour of Santa Monica’s must-do activities. From strolls along the famous boardwalk to rides on the solar-powered Ferris Wheel, it’s a relaxing start to a week they have dreamed of their entire lives.

On behalf of the Special Olympics and all its organizations worldwide, Shutters on the Beach and Hotel Casa del Mar invite you to join in the action this summer. Special Olympians are shattering physical barriers, changing perspectives regarding intellectual disability, and deserving of our undivided respect and support.

Let the games begin!
